Nondefensive:
There are ways of reducing defensiveness. Jack Gibb, creator of Trust-level Theory (TORI) has suggested an entire repertoire of methods for such a reduction.

Reducing Defensive Communication Through Trust
Re: TORI
"In the trusting state, the focus is primarily on trusting, expressing warmth and seeing differences. This kind of a focus in the initial group formation stage focuses the individuals on what he calls being or a coming to grips with one’s being. This process, once begun, then makes demands on the individual or group to open up and share their being with others as it is only through seeing ourselves through others that we can know ourselves.
This, then, leads naturally to Gibb’s “open” stage which focuses on interpersonal relationships that expands our understanding of our being. Once again trust plays an important role in this process. It is in this stage that masks are dropped and the group begins to enter into an intimate state in which trust has grown immensely."
